Video providers let you control the player with URL parameters, for example hiding player controls, or forcing captions. ARVE applies the parameters for you, so your end users only enter a normal video URL.
These are the parameters that are are added to the iframe src url.
How to set parameters#
There are three ways to add parameters to a video:
| Where | Applies to | Description |
|---|---|---|
| ARVE settings page | All videos | Under the URL Parameters section. Parameters added here are applied to every embedded video. |
| Shortcode attribute | Single video | Add a parameters attribute to the shortcode, one string with spaces between parameters. |
| Block sidebar | Single video | In the editor, select the ARVE block and enter parameters in the Parameters field of the block sidebar. |
Parameters are plain key=value pairs separated by spaces. Do not use quotes, and do not prepend ? or &.
Shortcode example
[arve url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=..." parameters="rel=0 controls=0" /]
Block example
- Add the ARVE block and paste a video URL.
- In the block sidebar, scroll to Parameters.
- Enter e.g.
rel=0 controls=0. - Save.
Settings example
On the ARVE settings page, set URL Parameters to e.g. playsinline=1 to apply to all videos. A single video can still override or extend through its shortcode/block parameters.
- Values are plain
0/1or strings. - Parameters are separated by spaces or
&(key=value key2=value2) - Settings apply globally; shortcode and block parameters apply per video.
